Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Kandace Dick and I provide Special Education inclusion services at Tug Valley High School. I graduated from Transylvania University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and earlier this year met my long-held goal of obtaining a degree in Special Education, from Western Governor's University. My certification is for Special Education: K-Adult and Elementary Education: K-5. I am 31 years old and married to a wonderful man, my husband Zan, and we have four rescue pets and counting. In my free time I read, knit, bake, travel, play video games (I blame Zan for indoctrinating me) and volunteer.
In every interaction I have with students, I want to convey that I absolutely believe they are worth my time and attention. It is my goal to make sure every student leaves my classroom or a session with me knowing that I care about where they are going in life. The classroom environment I want to cultivate is encouraging, accessible, respectful and warm. In that classroom learning does not just mean passing on academic knowledge, but also preparing for life, learning to respect one's self and others, and challenging stigma and self-doubt. I want my students to know that they are more than their difficulties and they are worth the time, attention, and work they need to succeed.
