Mr. Roy Penix

Mr. Penix is a retired Kentucky teacher with 39 years of experience as a teacher and administrator. He has been in Mingo County the last six of those years. Mr. Penix has a Bachelor's degree in Community Health and a Bachelor's degree in Education with certifications in Health, Biology, and Chemistry from the University of Kentucky, a Master's degree in Secondary Education and a Rank 1 in Educational Administration with endorsements of Secondary Principalship and Elementary Principalship from Morehead State University. He began teaching at Sheldon Clark High, then became an elementary principal at Pigeon Roost Elementary, worked as a teacher and administrator at Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center, taught at Prestonsburg High School, and Mingo County with the last three years at Tug Valley High.  Mr. Penix has been an assistant basketball coach, has sponsored several clubs and organizations, and served on numerous committees at both the school and district levels. In 2011 he was in the top eight finalists for the Ashland Oil Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year.  His classes to teach this year are Biology I and Chemistry I.   

 Mr. Penix also is the pastor of Paintsville Church of The Nazarene and in September will have served in this role for twenty-one years.
