What is Title I?
What does it mean to be a Title I School?
- Dingess Elementary School receives Title I funding and is considered a Title I school.
- In order to be considered for Title I funding, Dingess Elementary student population must consist of children from low-income families that make up up at least 40 percent of enrollment.
- Our school is eligible to use Title I funds to operate schoolwide programs that serve all children in the school in order to raise the achievement of the lowest-achieving students.
- There are many advantages to be a Title I school and those advantages include being able to use the money school wide to help all students academically regardless of their income status; funding is also used for additional staff including Tiltle I teachers, an Instructional Coach and Reading Interventionist who will offer additional support to students and teachers; funding is also used for school supplies and equipment as well as additional educational programs designed to improve student achievement; lastly, Title I can use the funding for teacher training as well as parent education and training.
- Opportunities for parents in a Title I school include the option to participate in parent training and education related to reading and mathematics, opportunity to serve on parent committees that include LSIC, Parent Policy Review Committee, Read Aloud and other paren volunteer opportunities.
