Virtual Learning Program
Mingo County Schools Virtual Learning enables homeschooled students to re-enter the public-school district, while learning at home. The district receives the same state- funding for these formerly family-taught students as it does for the district's traditionally-enrolled population. The Virtual Learning Program includes students who learn from home, exclusively, as well as regularly -enrolled students, who may need special scheduling accommodations as blended learners. In its inaugural year, the program had students in grades 7-12.
Virtual School students are enrolled at the brick and mortar school of the attendance zone in which they reside and may participate in school activities, organizations and athletics, provided they meet the eligibility requirements met by traditional students. Virtual students have attended dances, and one student played on an athletic team.
The Virtual School Program is one useful innovation, among all our district's tools to effectively educate Mingo County learners. Traditional enrollment, virtual school, digital resources and textbooks, and one-to-one computing devices, to name a few, all fit together to meet the unique learning needs of our students.
