MC soccer sets single season wins record
RED JACKET, W.Va. - The Mingo Central soccer program made history earlier this week as they defeated the Tug Valley Panthers 6-1 and in doing so set the school record for most wins in a season in MCHS history with a total of seven now on the season.
Senior Joseph West led the way for coach Noah Rhode's squad as he connected on two goals and also an assist against the Panthers.
Tyler Slone, Mason Taylor, Malik Gray, and Justin May all also had a goal for the Miners. Slone led the way with two assists and West added one. Goalie Andrew Allen had five saves.
West and fellow senior Judas Samosan were both freshmen that contributed on the 2015-16 team that previous held the record for most wins in a season with six, when coach Rhodes and assistant coach Josh Murphy were both seniors.
Since then West and Samosan have put in countless hours of extra work to help set the bar higher and lead the team to seven wins already with eight matches still left to play.
The Miners also hosted Cardinal Conference foe Logan last week and picked up an 8-1 win over the Wildcats.
In that contest Garrett Noe completed the hat trick for the Miners are he found the back of the net three times to lead the way. Tucker Wellman connected on two goals while Joseph West, Andrew Allen, and Branden Frye each had a goal. Slone led the way in assists again with three while West added two and Ethan Mendoza added one.
With the wins the Miners are now 7-5-1 on the year and will look to improve on that record and hopes to get to double digit wins.
They hosted Chapmanville last night and will host Herbert Hoover at "The Buck" on Sept. 26.
