OPEN LMS NEW INSTRUCTORS Course Assignments
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS BELOW, THEN SUBMIT YOUR COMPLETION FORM
You must complet the training course by reading through all course content and taking all four quizzes:
- Content & Resources;
- Activities & Assessments;
- Grades & Gradebook;
- and the PLD.
(These are not graded. There may be a miscalculation where you have gone through the course and it still shows 90-99% complete. That is acceptable.)
Your are now ready to move on to your training tasks. You must complete each task in the sandbox environment before submitting your course completion form to the District Office for payment of your stipend.
There are document and vido resources available for each task to assist you in completing the practice assignment.
TASK 1: Make a modification to your theme- change your cover image.
Click on "Change Cover Image" near the top right corner of your sandbox home page. Select a photo to upload and save. Below is a before and after of my sandbox home page.
TASK 2: Post an announcement.
See the image, below. Click the pencil under announcements to compose/edit an announcment.
TASK 3: Create a brief lesson (Very brief. Do not spend a lot of time on this. Add some text and perhaps some type of picture, media, or a link.)
Click “create learning activity” in your sandbox course. Choose “lesson.” Add content in the composition box to create a brief lesson (This does not need to be an actual lesson that you will give your students. Make it very brief). Use the sidebar on the right of the lesson composition space to add conditions to the lesson.
Here are a couple of training videos. You may also consult your handbook course, "Course Building Essentials".

TASK 6: Schedule/Open a Collaborate Room in your sandbox course.
Watch the Tutorial Videos I have provided for using Collaborate (like zoom and teams, but built-in to your Open LMS courses).
You schedule and open a "Collaborate" room just like you create other learning activities such as assignments, quizzes, etc. Click "Create learning activity" and choose "Collaborate" as your activity. It will have you to set the time and other parameters. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ADD AND SCHEDULE. The first video may be enough for this task. However, the third video will give you a lot of information as to how you can use features like interactive whiteboard, file and application sharing, polling, and breakout groups.
Using Blackboard Collaborate (Note: There are a few audio problems at the start of the video)
