• DRAWING AN OIL PASTEL ANIMAL

    Procedure:

    1. Look at animal pictures for inspiration.
    2. Pick a photograph of your own or use the copyright tools on google images to select images marked for reuse.
    3. Draw three separate sketches of the animal in different poses. You may zoom in on the animal’s face or you may place your animal in a setting. You may draw more than one animal.
    4. On sketch paper, create a border around the entire paper. It must be no smaller than 1”. Your border may have hard or irregular edges.
    5. Develop a pattern or your border that is related to your animal. Animal patterns (zebra stripes, leopard spots, etc.), footprints, colors, etc. may be used for your pattern.
    6. When you have your composition worked out, transfer onto larger paper.
    7. Complete the work using a variety of oil pastels. Light, bright colors will work best.
    8. Remember, it may take several layers of pastel to achieve a finished surface. MATERIALS: Animal pictures for reference, Sketch paper, 8.5”x 11” sketch paper, 12”x 18” drawing paper, rulers for the border, Pencil/eraser, oil pastels (assorted colors).
