Mrs. Lorraine Davis
Mrs. Davis is a summa cum laude graduate of Marshall University with a BA in English Education 5- Adult, and she is finishing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Marshall this year. She has fourteen years of teaching experience; the last twelve years have been spent educating students at Tug Valley High. Mrs. Davis is the English Department chair, and she is an active member of the Local School Improvement Council and the Leadership team. Also, she is a recipient of the 2014 Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Award. This award is only given to ten teachers in the state each year, and Mrs. Davis was one of those recipients.
Mrs. Davis teaches all eleventh grade students at Tug Valley High School, and her students repeatedly have the top proficiency score in the county on the state assessment. Furthermore, Mrs. Davis teaches the Advance Placement English Language and Composition course at Tug Valley High School, and her students had a 60% pass rate for the 2020 school year on the national AP Exam for Language and Composition, which is an extraordinary percentage considering that West Virginia schools (as a whole) only had a 45% pass rate on the exam.
