The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application for most types of financial aid. This includes federal aid, state aid, and many scholarships from universities and college as well as private scholarships. Students planning to attend any training or college after high school are encourage to complete the FAFSA.
To complete the FAFSA students and parents/ guardians will need to create FSA IDs. Your FSA ID enables you to log in to the FAFSA site and sign the FAFSA electronically.
After students and parents/guardians have created their FSA IDs they can begin filling out the FAFSA. To complete the FAFSA you will need:
- Your Social Security Number
- Your Alien Registration Number ( If you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: you may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- An FSA ID to sign electronically.
If you are a dependant student, then you will need most of the above information for you parent(s).
